This expensive Kitchenaid KSCS25INSS00 fridge was not cooling in both compartments. The problem turned out to be a failed 120 VAC output from the main control board to the condenser fan motor. Even though this model is only 12 years old, the main control board is discontinued. Using a patented Samurai Fix™, I bypassed the main board at a fraction of the cost of either replacing the entire fridg...

      Look at the schematic at about 1:25 into the video. This is not a 120 VAC split ohase compressor. It is a 3-phase compressor that’s run by an inverter. So picking power off the compressor was not an option.

    Is it common for the inverter board to go multiple times or would there be an underlying issue? Customer had their inverter board replaced in December. It's June and they're having the same problem. I changed the condenser fan, I've checked the DC and AC voltage, resistance on the compressor is consistent across all leads... Could it be the inverter again? Or possibly a surge issue that's taking out the inverter? I'm lost.

      Need to make sure you're getting your 120 VAC supply and the low DC voltage PWM signal both at the inverter. Need to also make sure ALL your thermistors are in spec, including the evap thermistor.

    If a fan is bad, would it trip the main fuse every time on start up? I had a loud humming that got progressively worse and shining a torch through the front fan intake vent I could see the noise started in the area or behind the fan even before the fan started spinning up. There are two capacitors behind the fan. The machine now trips as soon as any function is selected to start up. With each capacitor disconnected in turn the same thing happens. I bought a new fan in readiness thinking this was the issue but manually spinning it it’s silent. What I do not know is with a capacitor disconnected and a cycle started, would the machine still trip immediately or are the capacitors not my issue. The sounds from a failing capacitor I’ve seen online sound very similar to the noise my machine was making. Not constant through a cycle but intermittently like a vibrating hum. Machine is only a couple years old and clean inside. Sump pump clean, drains to outside fine. Lint filters always cleaned each cycle and fins on the condenser all good and clean. No metallic objects hindering drum spinning and belt fine.

      Rewatch the first couple of minutes of the video. The board is NOT switching Line voltage to the evap fan-- it switching Neutral. Line is always present at the load in this circuit. But without Neutral, there is not complete circuit so electrons will not move and the load will not do any work.

    I'm working on my grandmother's 1975 GE range in Avacado Green and I'm not getting 230 to either the bake or broil element. Verified voltage at main terminal block. Both elements have continuity. I am a Master HVAC Contractor and also do Appliance repair and should be able to figure this out, but this unit is older than me with no wiring schematic to go off of. Would you mind throwing some suggestions my way? Both bake and broil elements will only measure 120v when tested from one side of Element to ground. Something is stopping me from getting full voltage.

    • @AppliantologyOrg
      @AppliantologyOrg Місяць тому

      Need to half split the voltages between L1 and L2 to see which Line you’re missing. The missing line is the side of circuit to troubleshoot. Even without the schematic, you should be able to visually trace the wires back to the defective switch.

      @@AppliantologyOrg so I did that and found that a relay called H.W. Relay may be failing. I changed 2 wires around on it and now can get 240 to the element. I've tested it by allowing to hear for a couple minutes and then turning the control to OFF. When I select off, my amp draw goes to zero on the element. 9amp each leg when powered. I'm trying to see a reason that me moving 2 wires around would make this unsafe if switching the mode selector back to off terminates power to the element. I will say that I have a constant 120v at the element even if selector is in OFF position. I didn't have any voltage with unit off before swapping wires. My grandmother passed before I was born and I'm attempting to revive some nostalgia by putting this thing back in service. What does H.W. relay stand for?

    If one is not bright enough to understand something as simple as single phase split power, how likely is it that they would be able to use an oscilloscope ? When I was still in grade school in 1948, I was building full wave rectifier 250 v power supplies for homemade vacuum tube radios and other electronic equipment. Never owned an oscilloscope in those days, but the concept of opposite instantaneous voltage polarities at both ends of a center-tapped transformer winding was no mystery.

    • @AppliantologyOrg
      @AppliantologyOrg Місяць тому

      Thanks for your commoners, @walterbrown8694. I’ve had appliance techs and electricians argue with me that the two split phases are not 180 degrees out of phase. I’ve had appliance techs tell me that that two ‘in-phase” voltages ADD to make 240 VAC. And you can’t tell them the actual physics of what’s really happening because they know it all. This is the sad state of the trades today.

      Not sure what you mean. Suppose the computer is looking for a particular DC voltage drop, something less than 5 VDC, across a thermistor before it sends out 120 VAC to a load. The board is switching out a 120 VAC supply based on a specific DC input it's reading from a sensor. So in this common case, what goes in does not go out.

    Good video but next time just shut those horrible animals up. Those worthless beasts really ruined the video for me. I felt like I was serving an eviction notice at a trailer park.

    I used to Google for service manuals, but now I UA-cam first. This is EXACTLY what I needed to deep clean my Whirlpool. Thank you!

    What iPad do you recommend we buy, and where is the best place to get tech sheets quick?

      I use one of the smaller iPads because it’s easier to carry in service calls. I get tech sheets and service manuals at Appliantology.org. Need to be a tech member to download. This page explains tech membership options: appliantology.org/blogs/entry/1027-tech-memberships-at-appliantology/
